Kill Zones: The High-Probability Time Windows

Kill Zones are specific time windows within each session where institutional order flow is most concentrated. They are not arbitrary — they represent the moments when the largest participants are most active.

Kill Zones are defined time windows within the trading day where the probability of a significant, directional price move is highest. They are not technical indicators — they are time-based filters derived from studying where institutional volume concentrates within each session.

The Kill Zone windows

The Asia Reversal runs from 20:00 to 22:00 NY time — the window where Asian session positions are established and early London participants begin to position. The London Kill Zone runs from 02:00 to 05:00 NY time — the highest-probability FX window of the day. The New York Kill Zone runs from 07:00 to 11:00 NY time — the highest-probability window for US indices and USD pairs.

Why time matters

Institutional desks operate on schedules. Risk management systems impose intraday position limits. Traders rotate. The result is that institutional order flow is not random across time — it clusters at specific moments. Kill Zones represent those clusters. A technical setup that forms at 03:00 NY time during the London Kill Zone is structurally different from the same setup forming at 15:00 NY time during dead hours.

Using Kill Zones as a filter

The professional application of Kill Zones is as a filter, not a signal. They define the windows during which you are looking for entries. Outside Kill Zones, the default stance should be observation, not execution. This alone eliminates a large proportion of low-quality setups that form during low-volume periods.
